Week 13- Friday 10th June - Friday 17th June

Roadside stop (between Winton and Lark Quarry, QLD)

At the roadside stop we were the only people there. Dad and I went exploring and we found heaps of piles of rocks and dirt. We also found a giant puddle with animal footprints and fish (at least we think they were fish...) in it. Personally I thought the roadside stop was fun and relaxing.

We saw an incredible sunset when we were at the roadside stop. The clouds looked amazing.👇

Mum, Jackson and I took heaps of funny/cool photos by the fire. This is one of the best ones.👆

Jackson and I loved playing with his planes because it was a windy day.✈ 

Lark Quarry, QLD

When we arrived at Lark Quarry we got the pick of the campsite, the spot that we got was on the edge of the cliff and hidden away from the road. We had heaps of fun exploring the rocky terrain and finding rare boulder opals! But we also spent a lot of our time relaxing by the warm fire. I particularly loved getting up early in the morning to see the sun rise. 

I saw lots of petrified wood and Jackson and I bought some polished pieces from the gift shop at Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum.

We were camped on the edge of a cliff, there was a sheer drop only metres from our caravan (Jackson and I found a place were we could climb down to the small water hole below)!

Jackson and I made a spectacular cubby from wood (dead trees), bushes, sticks, pebbles and rocks. We even made a path and a roof for it!👇

The views around our campsite were all picturesque and so different!👇

                                      

Because we were camped on the edge of a cliff we got to see the best sunsets and sunrises (there was a full moon when we were there too)!👇

Richmond and Hughenden

When you think outback Queensland, you think dry and dusty plains. That is not true at all, at least its not in Richmond and Hughenden! Both of these small outback towns have large lakes and variety of flora and fauna! Even though we only stayed a night at Richmond and a night at Hughenden, we got to have a great taste of what these little towns had to offer!

We blew up Mum's blow up paddleboard and took turns paddling out in into the lake. It was the first time we have blown the paddleboard up this trip!

When we were at Richmond we were lucky enough to witness the 'Strawberry Supermoon' reflect across the water! It looked amazing!

In Hughenden we saw the Comet Windmill, it 's also known as Wirrilla Mill and it is a whooping 10.6 metres tall. The Comet is 1 out of only 15 ever made in Australia! 

Porcupine Gorge

At Porcupine Gorge we only stayed a couple of hours......but I could have stayed a couple of days! Even though it was a decent walk down (heaps of steps) it was worth it! We went swimming and exploring.

The rock formation we swam under was called Pyramid Rock and it really looked like a pyramid!👆

There was a couple of pools with heaps of tadpoles in then, sometimes there was so many tadpoles that they even looked like rocks!

There was a deep swimming hole which we were able to bomb into.

Wherever you looked in Porcupine Gorge the views were spectacular! The gorge was filled with a stream and lots of different flora, fish and water holes.👇 

Week 13 - Dinosaur Trail

Winton/Australian Age of Dinosaurs  & Lark Quarry/Dinosaur Stampede

Who thinks dinosaurs roar? I certainly did, before I went to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum and laboratories! They made me wonder...did dinosaurs actually roar. Because, there is no evidence! The scientists just made an educated guess! Dinosaurs could have made any type of sounds, they could have not even made any sounds at all! That was only one of the many things I learnt whilst at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum & the Dinosaur Stampede!

There was one room were there was fossilised footprints which the team from the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, painstakingly slowly, moved from where they found it up to the top of the mountain were the museum is based!👇

We got to see heaps of life sized dinosaur models, some of them were tiny and some of them were HUGE!

There was some amazing views from the top of the mountain where the museum is located!👇

We got to touch some of the fossilised bones! They felt bumpy, nearly like crocodile skin.

We got to see how they prepared the bones and fossils and how they removed the dirt. It takes a very long time!👆👇

We saw some incredible fossils in the Preparation room and the Collection room!👇

There was heaps (over 3000) of different dinosaur footprints at the Dinosaur Stampede, which is the only place in the world where evidence of a dinosaur stampede has been found!👇

Richmond & Hughenden

When we went Kronosaurus Korner in Richmond and the Fossil Museum in Hughenden what we saw was unexpected... awesomely unexpected! We got to see heaps of fossils and fossilised marine dinosaur bones found in the area- some were nearly complete skeletons found by regular local people.

At Kronosaurus Korner we saw an almost complete skeleton of a plesiosaur, it looks amazing!

A saltwater crocodile bottom jaw compared with a Kronosaurus bottom jaw!👆

There was heaps of amazing fossils (we even got to see some of fish and shells) in the museum!👇

                             

                                                    

                                                  

There was many cool scenes with dinosaurs and sea creatures from many millions of years ago!

At Hughenden there was a huge reproduction of seven metre-tall Muttaburrasaurus whose bones were found in the area!
