Maguk Falls - Kakadu, NT

On the way to the campground we stopped for breakfast at some rock pools. We had breakfast then headed straight down to swim-it was cold but refreshing. When we got to Maguk campground we quickly set up (and got boiling hot) before walking down for a swim. The bottom pool was great-it was really big and there were heaps of rocks to jump off, we also liked swimming under the waterfall and having it massage our backs. The next day Mum was feeling a bit sick so Dad, Jackson and I walked up to the top pools-we loved them!! There were heaps of swim throughs (where you dive down deep and swim through a hole in the rock) and spots to jump off. We spent a couple of hours up there before heading down and relaxing at camp. That afternoon we went up to the top pools again-this time with Mum as well. As soon as we had had breakfast the next morning we went to Ferny Gully, where we had a long swim. Afterwards, for lunch, we went to Moline Rock Hole-the water was really cold!! When we had finish warming up in the sun we went back to camp and chilled there for a bit. That afternoon we had a long swim in the top pools at Maguk Falls. The next morning, before we left, we had a quick swim in the big pool at the bottom of Maguk Falls- it was beautiful.

We jam packed heaps into the time we stayed at Mardukal Campground !! Over the three days we were there we:
- Walked up to the top of Twin Falls. We started the walk early but we still got really hot on the way up!! When we were up the top we swam in the big waterway-it was super refreshing.
- Swam in Jim-Jim Falls-the pool under the falls was freezing because it doesn't get much sun. When we laid on our backs in the water and looked up at the cliffs, it looked awesome.
- Had a look at Bowali Visitor Centre and the Warradjan Culture Centre. They were great! We learnt a lot about the local area, and about the changes Kakadu and the local people have gone through.
- Went on a sunrise cruise along the South Alligator River. We saw a lot of beautiful birds and a HEAP of crocs!! One of the crocodiles was eating a snake and another was jealous of a Jabiru that had caught a fish-it started charging at it!!!!!
- Walked up to see some rock art at Nourlangie and Ubirr-it was really clear as it had been painted under massive rock shelters. Because of the rock shelters no wind, rain, ect had impacted the art.
- Counted crocs at Cahills Crossing – there were so many swimming around and lying in the sun on the banks of the East Alligator River.

It wasn't just the rock art that was beautiful! The landscapes that we saw on the way up to the art were incredible.👇 |

After Kakadu we spent a night at the Purple Mango Cafe. We got there around lunchtime and had delicious wood fired pizzas for lunch. I got Top End Tropical which was like an Hawaiian pizza but with added mango. I also got a mango cheesecake for dessert, it was delicious. We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying their beautiful gardens, they grow heaps of different fruit and vegetables. On my way back from the shower that night I found a super cute green tree frog- Jackson and I had fun picking it up and showing it around camp.
