Scuttle, Scuttle,
Scuttle. As I sat around the fire, I could hear millions of hermit crabs
exploring our camp. The ground was so thick with them that we had to use head
torches to walk back and forth from our camp to the fire!!
Hermit crabs were not the only interesting animal we saw
around camp, as there was also an abundance of little Finches and a
beautiful little black bird with a bright red chest! The little birds all loved
flitting around our camp and drinking from the little water bowl we set out for
them-they were super cute!! We also found three octopuses when we were exploring
the rock pools, I found two of them. Out of the two I saw the first one was the
easiest to see as, when I first saw it, it was out of water and sitting on a rock. As
soon as it saw me it quickly clambered down the rocks and into a rock-pool.
Jackson found the third octopus but thought it was a baby cuttlefish-he was
wrong. The ‘cuttlefish’ turned out to be a big, angry blue ringed octopus that
was not happy to see us-it started flashing its beautiful, but deadly, electric
blue spots at us!! After watching the blue ringed octopus for a bit, we left the rock-pools, not before seeing heaps of giant clams!
The scariest animal encounter was when I went for a walk with the shovel after sunset and, after walking in the bushes for about twenty meters, heard slithering in the tree that was right next to me! I quickly turned and saw a massive brown body gliding away from where I stood. I started to run and did not stop till I got to the road! Jackson also had a scary encounter when he took the shovel for a walk-a dingo started stalking him! He was also collecting shells one evening when he heard a noise, he looked up and saw the same dingo looking at him, less the two meters away! We had an awesome time at Quandong Point (even though there were not any quandongs)!

| On our last day at Quandong Point we went and explored James Price Point, it was very pretty and the contrast between the red dirt, white sand and turquoise water was amazing. |

It was so nice to see our friends again and be in an
air-conditioned house-it is very hot this time of year. When we got there, we
quickly pulled the van up in front of the house before going inside and having
some scones. Whilst waiting for Harry (10) to get back from school we played with
Ned (4) and his Lego. Soon after Harry got back, we were on our way to Banana
Wells (BW) when we saw a big fire on the side of the road-not 100 metres away
from the community!! We decided to wait until the fire had burnt itself out before going to BW. After around an hour of
waiting we FINALLY got to go to BW but had missed the outgoing tide so there were
not many fish, though we still caught a Spanish Flag and a Mud Crab.
That night we played around inside for a bit before settling
down and watching a movie.

| The main attraction of Beagle Bay is the historical church that was built in the 1800's. The altar was built out of shells and shells decorate the rest of the church so it is incredibly beautiful. |

After talking with our friends, we all decided to go to Gnylmarung where there was a special section just for locals. Because of this we got a beautiful site right next to an undercover area-but we didn’t spend much time at camp because we were always at the beach! As it was hot down at the beach we were mainly in the water-which was warm!!!! Our friends took the boys out fishing on their boat, and they saw FIVE Dugongs which they didn’t think to tell us till later, when we were watching the sunset! ‘It was fun out fishing and I suppose the 5 dugongs we saw were pretty cool too’ was what they said!!!!! Our two days there flew by and we were sorry to leave-though we were exited to check out our next spot.
