Week 44- Monday 9th - Monday 16th January

Northcliffe, WA

Star Rating:★★

★=Full Star☆=Half a Star

At Northcliffe the main thing we did was drive over Yeagarup Dunes to get to Yeagarup Beach, where we spent an awesome day. We relaxed on the beach (under the shade of the awning), swam in the Warren River that was super close to the sea but didn't connect to it (because the sea was bit treacherous) and practiced on Jackson's new skimboard, I fell on my butt heaps!! For the rest of the time we were in Northcliffe we just chilled back at camp, though on the day we left we went to see the Understory art trail in Northcliffe, which is a wander through the forest where on every second turn there is a magnificent piece of art! There was everything from wood carvings and metal sculptures to books nailed to trees and paper fingers reaching up from the ground to grab you!! There was also more than forty different faces made on trees (that had been scarred from the 2015 bush fires) that looked like they where meant to be there!! We had a great time at Northcliffe.

Relaxing (with my clutter of stuff) on Yeagarup Beach.

There was a goanna on the beach at Yeagarup Beach.

In the freshwater Warren River that was about 150 meters from the sea (at Yeagarup Beach).

The funny toilet at Northcliffe Bush camp!

On one of the walks around the camp there was a massive yakka, there was more than 15 spiky tops on it!!

Can you see the shape that looks like a Hummingbird's head among the spiky stems of the plant. A little insect made its home in the "Hummingbird's beak" and that is what is holding it all together!

On the Understory Art trail there was over 40 charcoal faces on trees burnt from the 2015 bushfire. All the faces were based on real people, people who had lost their homes, volunteer fire
fighters and more. The faces where really amazing!!

My favourite pieces of art on the Understory Art Trail were five carvings, all done on a polished piece of marble. They were called the Forest Stones and I think they looked incredible!!👇

At Shannon National Park I mostly sat down at the computer, catching up on my blog. I also went exploring with Jackson and found heaps of mini pinecones!

Peaceful Bay, WA

Star Rating:★★★★

★=Full Star=Half a Star

Day One

On the day we arrived at Peaceful Bay we went straight down to the beach!! We had a great time snorkelling, swimming and clambering on the rocks! That afternoon we went and listened to a band (called the Sandcastles) for a bit, Mum and I also watched the sunset.

Day Two

On our second day at Peaceful Bay we:

  • drove far down the beach to a spot where Jackson and I could keep learning how to surf, I stood up (for about five seconds) a couple of times!
  • went back and had lunch before heading down to the Peaceful Bay beach where I swam and relaxed. I also went for a snorkel and saw a baby eagle ray, a squid and heaps of fish!

Day Three

On our third day at Peaceful Bay we:

  • realised how small we were when we went on the Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk, 40 metres in the air, the view was AMAZING and the trees were so big!! We also did the Ancient Empire walk where we marvelled at the massive bases of the Red Tingle trees!
  • visited the Giant Tingle Tree (more about it at the photo!) which was GIANT!
  • had a look at Green's Pool and Elephant Rock-they were  beautiful!
  • got to the Denmark Good Food Factory just in time to taste some fudge and get and ice-cream.

Day Four

On our last full day at Peaceful Bay I relaxed on the beach and worked on my macrame kit back at camp, I also went to a bigger beach with Dad where I flew my Kite (that I got for Christmas) for the first time. It was super fun!!

Watching the sunset on our first night at Peaceful Bay.

When we were going back from a great time learning to surf far down Peaceful Bay beach, Jackson and I got to ride home on the back of the car!

The view from the highest point on the Tree Top walk.👇

On the tree top walk!!👇

Some of the massive and magnificent Red Tingle trees. There are three species of Tingle trees, Rates Tingle tree, Red Tingle tree and Yellow Tingle tree but the
Red Tingle trees are the most incredible!!  The base of some of the RTT's (Red Tingle trees) are more that 22 meters round! As well as having MASSIVE bases they are also super high, reaching heights of 75 meters. They are also extremely old trees, some are over 400 years old!!👇

The view from a lookout just before the Giant Tingle tree.

The Giant Tingle tree!! The GTT's (Giant Tingle tree's) base is 24 meters round, it is massive!!

At Green's Pool and Elephant Rocks (the first photo is of me at Green's Pool and the second is of Elephant Rocks).👇

On the way back from Green's Pool we stopped in at a fudge factory where we tasted some delicious fudge and got an ice-cream. We got two scoops and I got Malteaser (very tasty) Black Cherry (not so very tasty!)!

When we went exploring on some beaches close to Peaceful Bay we found a massive whale bone! We think it was a spinal bone but since there was a bit missing from the top we weren't sure.

Flying the kite that I got for Xmas.👇
