Week 57: Big Red Bash. Friday 30th June - Friday 7th July

 Bashville, QLD

Star Rating:★★

★=Full Star=Half a Star

The people who came to the Big Red Bash were:
  • My Grandma and Pa with their friends, Peter and Helen.
  • My Aunty and Uncle with my cousins, Logan and Jenna.
  • My uncle's brother with his wife and their kids, Poppy and Ollie.

On the day we arrived at the BRB (Big Red Bash) we quickly set up before spending the afternoon on the sand dune. That night we all sat around the fire and all the kids and I played Murder in the Dark. The next day, in the morning, we went straight up to the sand dune. We spent most of the day up there and Mum and I went on a big walk to the next sand dune. For the rest of the day we explored camp and played games around the fire.

Finally the entertainment started on Sunday (although the music didn’t start till Monday arvo)! We started off the day with a walk up Big Red before it rained for an hour or so over midday. In the afternoon we watched the CRACKUP SISTERS comedy show (which was awesome!) and sat around the fire. It rained really heavily Sunday night so when we got up Monday morning the bulldust that had covered our camp had turn to (really) sticky mud, so that morning we used the sticky mud to make a chiminea (a sort of pizza oven)!  My job in making it was to collect the mud-it was easy as I just had to walk around, then my uncle would scrape the mud off the bottom of my boots.  After we finished the chiminea we started a shoe cleaning business-we made $36 (and snacks) cleaning the mud off peoples' shoes!! In the afternoon a band called Furnace & the Fundamentals played, they were awesome-we were all up in the mosh pit for the entire concert!

Early Tuesday morning Poppy and I had a drama workshop where we got filmed saying where we were from and something we had done whilst at the BRB. After we had been filmed we learnt a version of the song "I've been everywhere man!" which we performed Thursday afternoon. When the drama workshop finished we all donned blue t-shirts and wigs and, along with everyone at the BRB, made a massive human map of Australia! We bet the world record for the biggest country formed by people (5,467 people participated) and raised $74,897.90 for Juvenile Diabetes Research! That afternoon we enjoyed watching the music and my favourite singers/bands were Furnace & the Fundamentals and the Pierce Brothers. That night I had dumplings from one of the food trucks for dinner.

On Wednesday morning we all got up early and went up to the dune to try and beat the world record for the most people doing yoga on a sand dune. We beat the record by around a hundred people! After we had finished the yoga we went down to the bottom of Big Red and stood next to the track to watch the Drag Race (men dressed in women's clothes running down the sand dune)-it was awesome! The men were all dressed up in really funny costumes-there was a bride, synchronized swimmers and even men with beers shoved down their “bras”. Soon after the music started in the afternoon we, along with my cousins and Poppy and Ollie, went on a camel ride-it was really fun! It was lucky we got back when we did because the Crack-up Sisters had organized a MASSIVE game of tunnel ball with most of the people at the BRB and exercise balls, it was awesome! That night we enjoyed listening to the music and my favourite band/singer was The Angels. Overnight the mud dried and it became quite dusty…and really windy. Thursday turned out to not be the nicest day as the dirt and sand flew everywhere and went all in your eyes. We still had heaps of fun, especially in the morning when we did the Nutbush world record attempt. We got hot and sweaty dancing the Nutbush for 5 minutes and we beat the record (there were 5,838 dancing at once) and raised $87,570 for the Royal Flying Doctor's Service. Later that afternoon the video Poppy and I made at the drama class showed on the big screen, it was awesome! At dusk we went in a parade with all the kids that did the drama class (Jackson and Ollie tagged along too) and walked behind the flag that had our state on it. When we got to a certain point we stopped walking and sung the song we practiced at the drama class. It was really fun! That night we listened to the music and my favourite band/singer was Human Nature.

As soon as we got up on Friday morning Poppy, Jackson and I went to join the line for the donuts-we still had to wait for an hour and a half to get them though! The delicious donuts were worth it though! When we got back from getting the donuts our parents had packed up so all we had left to do was say bye to everyone and hit the road to Bedourie.

Looking out across the sand dune.

Walking up Big Red, the massive sand dune next to the concert area.

A whole lot of BUTT-the camels that we rode on Wednesday

I cracked up whilst watching the Crackup Sisters comedy show!

Our chiminea (at first I thought it was spelt Chi-MANIA, oops!) with a fire inside!!👇

Cleaning someone's shoes and a boy's (really muddy) bike wheels whilst we were doing our shoe cleaning business.

Furnace & the Fundamentals!!!👇

Learning the song at the drama workshop Poppy and I went to.

I'm blue DA BA DEE DA BA DI- dressed up in blue for the big blue day.

When everyone was in the big Australia it looked awesome-we were somewhere in the Great Australian Bight!

Waiting for yoga to start, we went up Wednesday morning and beat the world record for people doing yoga on a sand dune -672 people from the BRB all did yoga at the same time.

Watching the drag race.👇

Doing the giant tunnel ball. Jenna (in front of me) had to move to the side every time a ball came down!
